Basin’s Lilac Days adds more events

Basin’s annual Lilac Days kicks off this week with the second annual basketball invitational. Fourteen schools will come to Basin to play in the Riverside School gyms Thursday- Saturday. The public is invited to come watch.

A 3 on 3 basketball tournament has been added to the June 4 Lilac Days activities as has a car show. The tournament will be held in the Basin Community Center Complex gym. Registration starts at 3 p.m.

The car show will be in the parking lot behind the courthouse. It will run 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on June 4. Those interested in participating may stop by Valley Hardware or call John Bubla at 307-272-9341. There is no entry fee.

Also new this year is a Bike Safety Rodeo sponsored by the Basin Police Department. It will be in the parking lot of Big Horn Clinic, June 4, 1-2 p.m.

The rib contest planned for June 3 will not happen as there were not enough contestants. However, Unruly Smokers will be cooking barbecue on site for sale to the public. That starts at 5 p.m. in Washington Park. Also at 5 p.m. will be Basin Market selling cupcakes. At 6 p.m. Brett Savage will be giving a free concert in Washington Park. The public is encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and enjoy an evening in the park.

Saturday, June 4 events kick off with Gottsche’s annual fun run/walk. Registration will start at 8 a.m. in Washington Park with the run/walk starting at 9 a.m. Gottsche will also be selling cotton candy until noon. Scott from Aspire Coffee will also be on hand selling teas and coffees.

At 10 a.m. the music of Mark Cheshier starts along with the Basin First Baptist free breakfast. Vendors will open at 10 a.m. as well as the Friends of the Basin Library sidewalk art contest, games by The SHACK and Club Dauntless and the car show.

The Lilac Princess Contest is at 10:15 a.m. This is open to students going into middle school through graduating seniors. Those wanting to participate need to come to Washington Park on June 3 at 5 p.m.

At 10:45 a.m. the Lilac Baby Contest starts. This is open to babies from birth to 2 years old. Registration starts at 10:15 a.m. and ends at 10:30 a.m. Registration forms will be available that day or parents may pick them up beforehand in the foyer of the Basin Area Chamber.

The 2022 Lilac Queen will be crowned at 11:30 a.m.    

Lilac Days is sponsored by Basin Pharmacy, Big Horn Co-op, Big Horn REA, Copper Corner Café, Security State Bank, TCT and Queen Bee Gardens.

The chamber’s vice president Susan Wynn said she hopes that the public will tell the sponsors how much they appreciate their sponsorship. “Events like Lilac Days would never happen if we didn’t have such great business.”
