Mayor Myles Foley’s choice to fill the vacant seat on the Greybull Town Council has withdrawn her name from further consideration.
Marquerite Van Dyke shared her decision, which she reached “after a lot of soul searching,” with the mayor and members of the council in a letter dated March 26.
“I was very excited to be able to be part of our wonderful town’s government,” she said in the letter. “However, after all of the flack and letters to the paper, it appears to me that it is not something I want to put myself in the middle of.
“The town appears to be building a very hostile work environment and I do not wish to put myself into that situation. Thanks for taking my letter of interest and for showing how our government works.”
The next meeting of the council is its regular monthly meeting on Monday, May 11 at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
