Funeral services for Leslie Shepard will be held Monday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Emblem. Leslie, 78, died of Alzheimer’s on Oct. 8 at Hospice in Spokane, Wash.
He was born Sept. 19, 1937, in Greybull, the son of Mick and Zelda Shepard. He grew up in Otto and attended schools in Otto and Greybull; he graduated from Greybull High School in 1955.
Soon after graduating from high school, Leslie enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Sea Bee’s constructing military homes in the Philippines.
After completing military service, Leslie returned home. He married Mary Werbelow in Billings in 1959.
Later, Leslie, Mary and their young son, Clifford, moved to San Jose, Calif., where Leslie continued working in construction. They added three daughters to their family.
Eventually, Leslie branched out and owned Lucky’s Drywall, a successful sheetrock company. After retirement, they moved to Spokane.
He loved to garden, fish and party with his friends. Leslie and Mary traveled throughout Europe.
His parents, Mick and Zelda Shepard, his brother, Larry, and his sister, Fannie Shepard Blank, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary, of Spokane; his son, Clifford; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Brent and Carrie Shepard Olthoff, Mark and Laura Shepard LeBlas and Michelle Shepard, all of San Jose; one brother, Randy Shepard of Cody; two granddaughters and two grandsons, all of San Jose.
Burial will be in the Otto Cemetery. A brunch at Zion Lutheran Church will follow the services.
