Aug. 5, 1928 – Sept. 6
Funeral services for Renon Christensen Jones will be held Saturday, Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Burlington. Renon, 88, passed way Sept. 6.
She was born Aug. 5, 1928, in Levan, Utah, the daughter of Christian Peter and Grace Petersen Christensen. She was welcomed by three step-brothers, a step-sister and a brother Kirk. Her parents were later blessed with a son, Craig and a daughter, Geneil.
Renon grew up on the family farm and attended elementary school in Levan. She attended high school in Nephi, Utah. After graduating from high school, she attended the University of Utah and earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She taught in Levan, various places in Utah, and then spent 32 years teaching elementary school in Otto, and later in Burlington.
She served a mission in Samoa where she taught English at an LDS school.
She married Myron Alfred Jones in the Manti Temple on Dec. 26, 1964. The couple moved to Wyoming and she became involved in community activities.
She served on the Big Horn County School District No. 1 board, was active in Delta Kappa Gamma and Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
She was active in her church callings and served as stake dance director, Primary, Young Women and Relief Society Presidencies. She also taught where she was asked – from primary to adult Sunday school.
Musically inclined, Renon played the piano and sang alto in the church choir and with other groups. She was an excellent seamstress and made pajamas for all her grandkids for Christmas.
She loved to teach, to dance, to read and enjoyed the beauties of the world around her. A sports fan, she spent hours watching games of all types, especially those that involved her children or grandchildren. But what she loved most was her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron; her parents; and her siblings: Leslie, Joseph, Edgar, Leola, Craig and Kirk Christensen.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Janalee and Matthew Call, Randall and Michelle Jones and Craig and Leslie Jones, all of Otto; her sister and brother-in-law Leon and Geneil Christensen Tobler of Salt Lake City, Utah, and 20 grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Burlington Cemetery.
