July 26, 1938 – Dec. 30, 2018
Cremation has taken place and a private family service for James P. Goton will be held at Shell at a later date. Jim, 80, passed away Dec. 30 in Caballo, N.M.
He was born July 26, 1938, in Utica, N.Y., the son of James T. and Margaret Vines Goton.
He was a mentor to many and a friend to more. He will be remembered for the time he spent in the saddle where many of his life lessons were given. He enjoyed big-game hunting and horses and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Jim came to the Greybull/Shell area in 1960. He was the general manager of Bluejacket Guest Ranch and Bluejacket Outfitting Company for 12 years; he was a guide, shoed horses, worked for Flitners and for Clark Izzard, but construction was his primary career that started in New York when he operated a crane when he was 17.
Jim was a member of the Mounted Police.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly, of Caballo; son Mike of Shell and daughter Jody Kavalaskaf of Park City, Utah; stepsons Scott and Ben Mayland and Rod and Scot Gates; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Judi Goton of Greybull; two sisters, Irene Goton Knoblock of Uttica, N.Y. and Lucyan Goton Saul of Rome, N.Y. and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations can be made to the St. Jude Children‘s Research Hospital, 332 N. Lauderdale, Memphis, TN 38105.
“Do not stand by my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep. I am the winds that blow; I am the shining glints in the snow. I am sunlight on ripened grain; I am the gentle autumn rain. When you wake in the morning hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the stars that shine at night. Do not stand by my grave and cry for I am not there. I did not die.”
