Bus service through Big Horn Basin resumes April 1

By Nathan Oster

Express Arrow, a schedule route motorcoach carrier based in Norfolk, Neb., has announced plans to launch a new Cheyenne, Wyo.-to-Billings, Mont., route that will make scheduled stops in the Big Horn County communities of Basin, Greybull and Lovell starting on Monday, April 1.

Janice Johnson, director of administrative operations for Express Arrow, said Arrow Stage Lines ran a daily bus from Denver to Billings that made stops in the Big Horn Basin from 2009 to 2014, but that “there wasn’t enough ridership” to sustain it.

“We know the area would like some service and we’d like to provide it,” she said.

Initially it will be on a limited basis, with buses running northbound from Cheyenne to Billings on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Johnson said the plan is for the northbound buses, which will be leaving Cheyenne at 6 a.m., to stop in Basin at 12:15 p.m., Greybull at 12:25 p.m. and Lovell at 2:25 p.m.

Express Arrow plans to run buses southbound from Billings to Cheyenne on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with stops planned in Lovell at 7:35 a.m., Greybull at 9:35 a.m. and Basin at 9:45 a.m.

Johnson confirmed that the bus is going to stop at the Laundromat in Basin, but that the bus stops in Greybull and Lovell have yet to be finalized.  In both cases, the bus company has identified its preferred locations and is negotiating with the business owners.

The bus will also be making scheduled stops along the route in Shoshoni, Thermopolis and Cody.

Johnson said the bus rolling through the Big Horn Basin would have at least 35 passenger seats.

In a press release announcing the new route, Express Arrow stated its commitment “to providing safe, convenient, and reliable scheduled bus services to get you wherever you need to go.”

Passengers can get departure and arrival times as well as purchase their tickets at the bus depot located in Billings and the Basin Laundromat or at  www.expressarrow.com.  Arrow is also currently working with local businesses at other stops along the route to establish local bus depots for passengers to purchase their tickets.
