The Greybull Police Department responded to more calls for service, but made slightly fewer arrests in 2024 than it did in 2023, according to year-end crime data provided by Chief Travis Davis and Sergeant Drew Patrick.

The biggest year-to-year change was in the number of drug arrests: In 2024, the GPD made 11; the previous year, just six.  But between 2019 and 2022, the department averaged about 11 drug arrests per year, so it’s more a return to the norm than a trend.

“We’ve been working with the DCI (Division of Criminal Investigation) a lot better, sharing information with them and they’re sharing it with us, and I think that’s why drug arrests are up,” said Patrick. “There have been some major drug dealers taken out, so drug activity should go down — until someone else picks it up.”

Patrick said he and Davis meet quarterly with not only the DCI but also the Big Horn, Park, Washakie and Hot Springs county sheriff’s offices, adding that they’ve been very helpful from the GPD’s perspective.

In other highlights from the report, the GPD showed a significant increase in calls for service, climbing to 3,962 from 2,958 in 2023.  Overall, the GPD made 37 arrest last year, which was down from 43 the previous year.

The number of citations issued remained the same -- 154.

The data wasn’t included in the report, but Patrick said his sense is that the number of domestic violence calls/arrests has decreased compared to his first year with the GPD in 2018.  “I don’t know if it’s under-reported — it may be a case of people simply not calling us,” he said.
