James “Jim” Francis Spargur

September 28, 1937 - May 9, 2026

James “Jim” Francis Spargur passed away peacefully on May 9 at the Basin Retirement Center. His lifelong partner, Lena Peterson, was by his side, providing love and support until the very end.

Jim was born on September 28, 1937, in Greybull, Wyo., to Mildred V. Hoover and Allen Francis Spargur. He grew up in Greybull and attended local schools there. He was later married to Beverely Ehrlich (Harnden).

A man of great work ethic, Jim dedicated his life to providing for his family. Over the years, he worked tirelessly in the oilfields, driving trucks, and working as a mechanic.

He was well-known for his generous spirit, always stepping up to help friends and neighbors solve their mechanical problems. Jim was also a proud, lifetime member of the Elks Club.

Jim’s greatest joys were found in the great outdoors and in the company of those he loved. He cherished hunting in the Bighorn Mountains with his uncle and sons, playing poker, and sharing coffee and stories with his buddies. Above all, his happiest moments were spent fishing and camping with his family in Canada and at the Yellowtail Reservoir.

Jim is survived by his lifelong partner Lena Peterson, her son Rowdy Peterson, his brother, Dean Hansen, and his wife, Anita, of Concrete, Wash. He leaves behind his loving children: Allen Spargur and his girlfriend Lisa of Stanwood, Wash.; Cosette Gaul of Billings, Mont., and Tony Spargur and his girlfriend Sindy, of Camano Island, Wash.

His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Shaelea Spargur of Casper, Wyo., Matt Gaul of Jefferson, Ohio, and Austin Spargur of Spokane, Wash.; his great-grandchildren, Stetson James and Jessie James; as well as three nieces and many cousins.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 20 at the Greybull Cemetery at 11 a.m. with a following celebration of life at the Elks Club in Greybull. Cremation has taken place at the Antelope Butte Crematory in Greybull.
