June 15, 1928 – Sept. 5, 2020

Melvin Thomas Smith passed away on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020, at the age of 92, in St. George, Utah. He died peacefully after several years of declining health due to Parkinson’s with his beloved wife, Lorna, close by.

Melvin was born in Cowley on June 15, 1928, to parents Heman and Edetha Smith. He was one of 10 children. Melvin’s grandfather was Samuel Harrison Bailey Smith, the orphaned son of Samuel Harrison Smith, brother to the founder and prophet Joseph Smith of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 

March 17, 1972 – Sept. 8, 2020

Samuel Patrick “Pat” Rich was born in Powell on March 17, 1972, to S.T. and June Rich and died Sept. 8, 2020. 

Patrick had a large and mischievous personality that drew people in with his smiles and his hugs. Once you met Pat, he considered you a relative, and he often decided you looked like a famous movie star. Pat loved the rodeo and especially the clown Tony Martoglio. Patrick was a huge tease and loved to tickle, throw socks at you or try to wrestle you down. He also loved movies, music and bowling.

Nov. 7, 1993 – Sept. 7, 2020

Caleb Paul Estes of Deaver died Sept. 7, 2020. He was born in Powell on Nov. 7, 1993, son of Dale and Michelle (Metz) Estes. He was 26 years old.

Caleb grew up in Deaver. He was always looking for an opportunity to be outdoors exploring the wild blue yonder. When he was younger, he and his brothers would hunt in the “Bird Park,” looking for an unsuspecting bird to shoot.
