Former resident Carol Peterson-Spitler, 87, passed away at her home in Powell Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, after a recent illness.

Born July 28, 1933, in Greybull, she was one of four children of Chuck and Ardella (Robison) Negro.

In 1953 she married John R. Peterson in Lovell.  To this union were born two children, Richard and Tracy. The couple moved to Thermopolis in the 1960s, where Carol was employed by IGA, JCPenney and Hot Springs County School District #1. John died in 1993. 

In February of 1994 she married Jim Spitler in Las Vegas, where they remained until Jim’s death in 2006. Carol moved to Powell in 2018.

A member of JC Janes, VFW Auxiliary, Petroleum Wives and several bridge clubs, she was a master bridge player, enjoyed pinochle and bingo, and Las Vegas was her town.

Those cherishing her memory are her children, son Richard (Grace) Peterson and daughter Tracy Matthews, both of Powell, and stepson Chris Spitler of Colon, Mich.; brothers Bob (Carol) Negro of Sheridan and Don Negro of Texas; sister Donna Sessions of Casper; and grandchildren Jennifer Carol Peterson (Will) Wright, John Charles Peterson and Randy Tamlin Matthews. She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands, John of 40 years and Jim of 12 years.

Private graveside services were held Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Monument Hill Cemetery, where she was interred next to her first husband, John.

Donations may be made to diabetes and cancer organizations or to animal causes as Carol loved animals and donated to such.
