Dale Robert Schmoldt

Dale Robert Schmoldt completed his earthly sojourn on Oct. 8, 2023, in Cody, Wyo.
He was born on July 23, 1937, in Greybull, Wyo., the son of William K. and Irma (Ahlgrimm) Schmoldt, and grew up on the family farm near Emblem, Wyo.
Dale attended the first eight grades at the old West Emblem School and graduated from Greybull High School in 1955. He then attended the University of Wyoming and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a minor in Architecture.
After graduation in 1959, he accepted employment with the California Department of Transportation which at that time was just embarking upon the design and construction of the Interstate Highway System. Most of his years with the Department of Transportation were spent in and around the San Diego area.
On March 4, 1960, he married Vernetta Omans of Hawthorne, Calif., and they had two children: Daryl and Dawn. Subsequent to their divorce, in 1981 met and married Lucille Gustafson of Whitefish, Mont., who preceded him in death in 2014.
In the year 2000, after nearly 42 years of service, he retired from the Department as an Engineering Division Chief and in 2005 he and Lucille moved back to his native state, taking up residence in Cody, Wyo.
Dale was a registered Professional Civil Engineer in the state of California, Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming. Also, he was a life member of the Wyoming Alumni Association, a life member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, and a fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineers.
He is survived by his son Daryl Schmoldt of Blairstown, N.J., his daughter Dawn Schmoldt of Cody, Wyo., and three stepsons: Leon (Linda) Gustafson, Ross Gustofson and Rohm Gustofson. Dale is also survived by seven grandchildren: Brandon, Summer, Ahna, Joseph, Andrew, Shawn, and Sandra; four great-grandchildren: Brynn, Rayven, Grant, and Grace, and various other cousins and family members.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Emblem, Wyo., with burial to follow at the Emblem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice.
