Harold Richard Dickinson, 91, died on May 7, 2022 at his home in Basin, Wyo.  Harold was born on June 27, 1930, in Greybull and raised in Shell, Wyo., spending most of his time with his brothers on the family ranch. Harold attended school at the Shell School House and loved the memories he made there.  He was the third son of Raymond Dickinson and Bessie Ermil (Smith) Dickinson.  He served four years in the United States Navy from March 13, 1951 to March 14, 1955, mainly on the USS Rogers. He traveled all over the world from basic training in San Diego to Bremerton, Wash., Pearl Harbor, San Francisco, Sasebo and Tokyo, Japan. His main duty was being a Harbor Dockman Crew member in charge of cables and ropes. He was also a gunner.

After being honorably discharged, he worked for the Wyoming Department of Transportation for a few years.  He later worked for many years with Don Knox Construction in Sheridan, Wyo., as a superintendent and also for large construction companies all over the state of Wyoming.  His work included building bridges and retaining walls near the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. From 1976 to 1982 Harold and his nephew, Larry Dickinson were partners in Dickinson Construction and built many houses and structures in Big Horn County and the surrounding areas.

Harold was an ambitious gardener and shared produce with many neighbors, friends and family. He was a hard worker, fiercely independent and devoted to family. Harold loved helping his adopted niece Holly Dickinson of Idaho Falls, Idaho.  Harold was a man of unwavering faith and a strong believer in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Armor Dickinson, Raymond “Bud” (Virginia) Dickinson and William “Bill” (Wanda) Dickinson.

Survivors include his nephews: Larry (Connie) Dickinson of Thermopolis; David (DeAnne) Dickinson of Weston, Wis.; Mark (Vicki) Dickinson of Mission Viejo, Calif.; nieces: Diane (Shawn) Perry of Ronan, Mont.; Janet (Rory) Scott of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Holly Dickinson of Idaho Falls, Idaho and lots of extended family.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 10  a.m. at the Upper Shell/Smith Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
