Jack Russel Carlton

Jack Russel Carlton passed away Sept. 13, 2022, with loved ones by his side.

He was born Jan. 22, 1932, to Harold and Dora Carlton in Red Cloud, Neb., along with two brothers and a sister.

Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman. If there was water, he would fish it. At 14 years old, he started working; scooping corn into a corn sheller, anything to make a dime. At age 17, he went to work as a heavy equipment mechanic, building numerous highways and dams in Wyoming.

The fall of 1951, he moved to Moorcroft, Wyo., and met his love and partner of life, Betty. They married April 26, 1952. Together they raised Betty’s daughter Leota and Jerilyn was born Jan. 10, 1954. Years later, they adopted and raised granddaughter Rita as their own. In 1983 Rita had son Rusty whom they helped raise and became granddad’s fishing partner.

Jack also loved to garden and can goods. People around Greybull know him well for his peanut brittle and fruit roll-ups.

Jack is survived by his brother Charles (Kathy) Carlton and their children Lori and Lincoln; his daughter Rita Cerkan and her children, Rusty Carlton, Dezarae (Clint) Helton, and Timothy Cerkan; also son-in-law Wayne Arde and his children Tramayne (Robin) Johnson, Tarla (Eric) Ballew, Torrie Arde, and Tangee (Elvis) Arde; numerous nieces and nephews, 17 great-great grandchildren and a lifetime worth of friends.

Preceded in death by brother Bob, sister Shirley, wife Betty, daughters Jerilyn and Leota, and granddaughter Tristin.

A celebration of life will be held at the Atwood Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, at 11 a.m. in Greybull, Wyo.
