The Lady Buffs celebrated Homecoming with a clean sweep of their two opponents, conference foe Rocky Mountain Friday in five hotly contested sets, 25-20, 20-25, 21-25, 27-25, 15-11, and a much easier three-set victory over Lovell Saturday, 25-22, 25-23, 25-16.

Coach Maddy Moody said her team took the floor Friday strong and ready but “fell apart a little in games two and three.”

Down 1-2, the  Buffs had to settle in and win the next two sets.

Coach Moody said in the two losing sets, “We switched some defensive strategies which threw off my defenders. We went back to our old defense and that helped a lot.”

The stat sheets had Brie Benasky with eight kills; Elaina Howe with seven and Shayla Cheatham, five; Abby Keisel had 12 assists; Kylin Stephens  had six assists and three kills. Libero Kaylyn Burns had 30 “perfect” passes.

The homecoming celebration was winding down Saturday.  The team was "calm" and Coach Moody said the match against Lovell "was full of great things we had been working on in practice.”

All three sets were competitive but the Buffs controlled the flow.

Stephens had 14 assists; Keisel, five; Benasky registered seven kills and four blocks; Cheatham, eight kills and 20 good passes; Howe, three kills, eight blocks; Kaitlyn Briscoe, three kills, three blocks and Burns, 35 good passes.

The Buffs will be competing in the Riverside Quads in Basin Saturday. They will play the Lady Rebels, Wind River Lady Cougars and the Big Piney Lady Punchers.

Junior varsity matches kick off the action and will be followed immediately by their varsity counterparts.

The Greybull JV will face Big Piney in the old RHS gym at 9 a.m., Riverside at 2:30 in the new gym and then return to the old gym to play Wind River at 4 p.m.

Wind River and Big Piney are in the Southwest Conference, along with the Shoshoni Lady Blue.
