Members of St. John’s Lutheran Church joined those of some 6,000 other congregations Sunday in beginning what will be the year-long celebration of the 125th anniversary of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. From the handful of German Saxons who came to America in 1847 seeking religious freedom, the LCMS has grown steadily to its present membership of more than 3 million.

William Allen Poe was known as Billy to his mother, sister and niece. Other family members called him Bill, war buddies called him Willy and also some family members and friends. To old friends just Poe, and some of us called him John Wayne’s double. Whatever the name, he had a big grin for you. He died Friday, May 9, 1997, at
the New Horizons Care Center in Lovell.
