Jan. 1, 1924
The Horton family, living near the depot and composed of father, mother and several children, decided to take in the Christmas celebration at Clareton Friday evening. They dove out in the Ford car and got along fine until they came to a hill south of the Statler place. In going down the hill the car got to running quite fast and just as it got to the fill near the bottom the brakes were applied. The car skidded over the bank, turned over and spilled everyone out. Both Mr. and Mrs. Horton are more or less badly bruised, though none of the children were injured in the least. It was fortunate that no one was seriously injured.
