Mushers find snow at Antelope Butte

With sled dog races being canceled regionally, snow in the Big Horn Mountains was a welcome sight last weekend at the Antelope Butte Mountain Recreation Area.
Sixteen mushers competed in the two-day Big Horn Rush Sled Dog Challenge, held annually the weekend before New Year’s. In its seventh year, the event welcomed athletes competing from six states: Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. They raced four-, seven- and 11-mile routes, starting and ending at AB, with one skijor competitor. “A continued effort to promote dog-powered winter sports in the Big Horns,” said event organizer Ben Keller.
“This is the only race that had snow,” said musher Heide Morgan. “Everything else is getting canceled.”
