A garden of earthly delights: Art in the Dark shines light on student artists

Greybull students put on a dazzling display last Tuesday, March 5, at their annual Art in the Dark show, held inside the Greybull High School auditorium. For 2024, students were challenged to create works that met the theme of a Garden Party. Nearly 100 works were put on view and, among them, three were awarded Best In Show, six were given honorable mentions, and one ranked supreme with the People’s Choice Award.
Elena Campos, a junior whose work “Opossums Tea Party” was awarded Best in Show, took home the People’s prize on Tuesday night. Campos created a ceramic mixed-media sculpture of two opossums by candlelight and stated: “Opossums are often considered gross, dirty creatures. In reality, they are just gentle backyard marsupials. I wanted to base my idea on this side of them, something many will not see.” Her sculpture is life-like and heavily detailed with acrylic fur, flowers, and woodgrain detail.
