Ida Jane (Grisham) Gilmore

Ida Jane (Grisham) Gilmore, aged 91, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2024, in San Tan Valley, Ariz. Born on Feb. 2, 1933, in Greybull, Wyo., she was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend who touched the lives of many with her warmth and generosity.
Ida graduated from Greybull High School in 1951 and later earned a business degree in Omaha, Neb. Later in life, she received a diploma in computer sciences from Mesa Community College in Mesa, Ariz. While riding a train, returning to college in Nebraska, she met her future husband, Raymond L. Gilmore.
Ida and Ray were married May 3, 1954 in Greybull, Wyo.  Other than a couple years they lived in Nebraska, Ray and Ida made their home on a little farm east of Greybull where they raised their family of five children, four boys and a girl: John, David, Ronald, Michael and Maria. They lived together there until Ray’s passing in 1990. Ida continued to live there until 1994 when she moved to Queen Creek / San Tan Valley, Ariz., to live next door to her daughter Maria and Maria’s husband Rob, where she spent the next 30 years helping them raise their kids and grandkids.
In Wyoming, Ida worked at Greybull Bank and worked as a rural postal carrier. Later in Arizona, she worked as a medical transcriber and as a clerk at Circle K in Queen Creek. But, by far, the greatest career of Ida’s life was as a homemaker, mother and grandmother. Her favorite title for most of her life was “Grandma.”
Ida was a devoted Christian and follower of Jesus Christ, serving and volunteering in her church, cooking for Bible school camps, serving as a disaster relief volunteer with the Southern Baptist Church during the “Great Flood of 1993” in Missouri. Also serving as a missionary to Paraguay in 1995 and 1996, teaching bible school to children.
Ida loved to cook (best cinnamon rolls ever). She enjoyed gardening and crocheting. She was a talented quilter and designed and created many beautiful works of quilted art. She created and donated dozens of quilts for veterans, friends and family in honor of her grandson Nathan after his death in Iraq. She also loved wordsearch puzzles and wrote several of her own Bible verse related word-search puzzles. She was an avid reader, she loved old gospel music and was an incredibly competitive checkers player.
Ida was predeceased by her loving husband, Raymond Gilmore; her sons Ronald, John, Mike, and David; her granddaughter Christina; grandsons David and Nathan (Erin); her parents; and her siblings William, Freddy, Harry, Jimmy and Betsy.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her daughter, Maria Martens (Rob); her siblings, Nancy and Archie; and her grandchildren Bobbie Ann (Josh), Erin (Nathan’s wife), Matthew (Megan), Christopher, Chris, Stephanie, Kari, Sheri, Tina, Joshua, Ronald, Christie, Shaleese, Cody, Justin, Jeremy, Jason and Jennifer. Her numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive her.
Ida will be remembered for her kind spirit, her love of God, her unwavering support of her family and her ability to inspire those around her. Her family and friends will forever hold her in their hearts.
Funeral services will be held at San Tan Mountain View Funeral Home, 21809 S. Ellsworth Road, Queen Creek, Ariz., on Friday July 19, 2024, at 3 p.m.  Reception to follow
Interment will be at Whaley Cemetery, 3230 CR-R36, Greybull, Wyo. Gravesite service/internment is Saturday, July 27, 2024, 10:30 a.m.   Reception to follow at Shell Community Hall, 201 Smith Ave., Shell, Wyo.
