GHS Speech extends silver medal streak in Riverton

Second-place trophies have been emblematic of the Greybull High School speech team’s regular season, and they returned from the Riverton Invitational with another after finishing one point behind longtime rival Hot Springs County.
“The Riverton tournament included most of the schools from the west side of the state and is a pretty good indicator of how we might fair at the national qualifier in three weeks,” said coach Joel Kuper. “We got edged by a single point for first in sweepstakes, so we know what we need to do when state comes around in March.”
Greybull closed the gap on Hot Springs County with strong performances in Humor and Poetry but missed semifinal points in other events where they’ve seen steady improvement during the season.
Gabriel VanderPloeg topped Greybull’s placement board with a third-place finish in Humor. He also competed in Informative Speaking and Duo Interpretation with teammate Samuel Campos.
