The Big Horn County School District No. 3 board of trustees received positive reviews at its May 14 meeting from the high school students who were enrolled in the new CNA certification class.
Available to students 16 and older, the class was offered as a response to student interest and the local and nationwide shortages in the healthcare field.
A CNA, or Certified Nursing Assistant, works in a hospital or long-term care facility and assists nursing staff with patient care. Their primary responsibilities are to assist activities of daily living, including feeding, dressing, hygiene and exercise.
Tracy Boyer, the school district’s nurse, led the program, focusing on coursework in the first semester and lab and clinical requirements in the second.
