A Greybull man who allegedly pulled a gun on two people and pointed it at them on a Big Horn County highway last September has pled not guilty to six charges in connection with the incident.

Grady Gerritt Swiftney, 50, is accused of aggravated assault and battery and possession of a deadly weapon with unlawful intent, both felonies, along with misdemeanor charges of reckless endangering; driving or having control of a vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor, second offense; possession of a controlled substance: marijuana, and open container.

Swiftney was arraigned Jan. 21 in the Fifth Judicial District Court of Big Horn County.

His trial is set for June 2, 2025, according to Big Horn County Attorney Marcia Bean.

The affidavit alleges that Swiftney was returning from a camping trip at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 16, 2024, when the incident occurred in Big Horn County.  The exact location was not cited in the affidavit.

Two witnesses told investigators that Swiftney stopped his vehicle in front of them, turned on its hazard lights, exited and walked toward them. They said he yelled at them to roll down their window, but they refused to do so, and that as he walked away, he brandished a black Glock semi-automatic pistol which was pointed at them.

“The witness stated she was in fear for her life,” Big Horn County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Powell wrote in the affidavit.

Inside Swiftney’s truck, investigators found a Glock 42 .380 semi-automatic pistol and one round chambered with a magazine of five rounds.

The most serious charge against Swiftney, felony aggravated assault and battery, carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $10,000.
