JV girls, TR call it a draw after 3 OTs
It was a great weekend for the Greybull Lady Buff JV athletes. They hosted Shoshoni Friday and beat the Lady Blue 33-21.; Saturday they went over the mountains and played the Tongue River JV. The two teams battled through four quarters of regulation and then through three overtimes and when the buzzer sounded and both teams had 32 points, they called it a draw. Game over. Neither team lost.
Coach Nate Boyer said sophomore Brooklyn Alen and freshman Avery Allen led the team in scoring against Shoshoni, each scoring eight points. “This was a great win against a conference team. We were down a player due to injury, so it was a time for girls to step up and get some playing time,” according to Bower.
Saturday afternoon was a marathon game when the Buffs played Tongue River on the Eagles’ home court.
“We went into triple overtime with a team who beat us by double digits,” Boyer said.
Boyer said with the three games coming up after the girls JV, “We decided not to go for the fourth overtime.” There are restrictions on how many quarters a player can play which meant in the three overtimes it came down to about five girls playing without a rest.
Bower said, “It was a great opportunity for the girls to finish strong.”
