The Lady Buffs put things together in a home game Friday night to beat conference foe Shoshoni 46-46 before a hometown crowd. The victory was sandwiched between losses to Burlington on Tuesday, 49-14, and to the Tongue River Eagles Saturday, 58-20.

Focusing on the Friday victory, Coach Jef Hunt said “It was special because it was a conference win.”

In addition to being a conference win, it was a real boost to his team’s confidence.

“The girls did a great job following our plan,” Hunt added. “We took advantage of our size on both ends of the court. They had a difficult time getting easy baskets in the key.”

Perla Rodriguez came close to having a triple-double game. Hunt said the sophomore had 10 points, 11 rebounds and nine blocks to lead the team. “Camila Acuna had her best offensive game of the year,” according to her coach. She finished the with 10 points and seven rebounds.

“We played well as a team and our full-court press made it difficult for them to get any type of offensive flow,” said Hunt.

The Tuesday, Jan. 28 game at Burlington was not a good start for the Buffs. The Huskies jumped out to a 15-3 lead and were off and running to the 49-14 win.

Hunt said the Huskies are very athletic and they took advantage of their speed and athleticism.

Jazmine Rodriguez was credited for her performance. “She had a very good game and led the offensive with eight points,” said Hunt.

Moving onto the Saturday game at Tongue River, the Eagles took the 16-3 lead at the first quarter stop and the out-manned Buffs could not touch them after that.

“They are a very athletic team and have a few girls who are very hard to slow down,” Hunt said.

The Eagles’ full-court press made it difficult for the Buffs to get the ball across halfcourt.

“They do a great job moving the ball on offense and we just ran out of gas,” according to Hunt.
