Castro makes Dean’s List at Nebraska
Irving Castro of Greybull has been named to the Deans’ List at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for the fall semester of the 2023-24 academic year.
Castro, a junior majoring in nutrition and health sciences, was named to the Dean’s List for the College of Education and Human Sciences, which requires a grade point average of 3.75 or better.
Irving is the son of Ramon and Marisela Castro.

A.P. Tucker, who was arrested last week on his return to Greybull, had a hearing Saturday on a charge of contempt of court in that he had sold liquor in violation of an injunction issued recently.
Woodrow Wilson died at his home in Washington Sunday morning at 11:15. Woodrow Wilson’s failing was his inability to subdue personalities—his inability to give up personal animus.

Jan. 29 — 3:11 a.m.: Deputies responded to a one-vehicle accident on Highway 310 in Greybull.
12:50 p.m.: Deputies on Road 30 in Big Horn County responded to a gate that had been damaged.
12:52 p.m.: At Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office in Basin, deputies handled an open 911 call.
6:19 p.m.: Deputies initiated a traffic stop on Highway 20 South in Basin. A warning was issued.
7:16 p.m.: Deputies on Highway 20/Road 26 in Greybull initiated a traffic stop. A warning was issued.
7:18 p.m.: On Greybull Avenue in Greybull, deputies initiated a traffic stop. A warning was issued.
Jan. 30 — 11:25 a.m.: Deputies referred a wildlife issue at BHCSO to another agency.
12:21 p.m.: Deputies at BHCSO assisted with a criminal trespass order.
2:00 p.m.: Jacob Neil Nelson was arrested at Big Horn County Courthouse in Basin and charged with bond revocation to serve time sentenced.

Jan. 29 — 2:07 a.m.: Officers performed an extra patrol at Industrial Park on Schutte Drive.
2:32 a.m.: Information was provided to officers on South Seventh Street.
3:11 a.m.: Officers responded to a single vehicle accident at MP 210 on Hwy 310.
7:18 a.m.: Officers patrolled the school zone.
8:45 a.m.: Officers performed a welfare check on Third Avenue North.
6:11 p.m.: Officers responded to a rapid SOS activation on Second Avenue North.
7:12 p.m.: Officers responded to a report of a dog tied up in front of Family Dollar on North Sixth Street.
7:18 p.m.: Officers initiated a traffic stop on Greybull Avenue. A warning was issued.

Shed dealer opens Greybull site

Copper Mountain Irrigation, LLC, has established an outdoor showroom for its line of Big Horn Sheds in the 1200 block of North Sixth Street.
Gerald Loewen, who oversees the building sales, said an Amish family in the Powell area builds the utility sheds, which are primarily used for storage although some have chosen to turn them into living quarters.  
As of last Wednesday, six different styles were on display at the Greybull lot.
Big Horn Sheds also locations in Powell and Worland.  Loewen said the company decided to establish one in Greybull to better reach motorists traveling on U.S. Highway 14 between Cody and Shell.

Greybull woman pleads guilty to drug charges

A 65-year-old Greybull woman pleaded guilty to a pair of drug-related charges that were filed after her vehicle was stopped for speeding last October in Big Horn County.
Joan Hansen entered the pleas to a felony count of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and as well as a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) during a change-of-plea hearing held Jan. 30 in Fifth Judicial District Court.
Hansen has been in jail since her arrest Oct. 21, 2023.  Her vehicle was pulled over after being clocked going 81 in a 70 mph zone on U.S. Highway 310.  

Lovell to host quarterly GOP State Central Committee meeting

Big Horn County Republicans are hosting the quarterly Republican State Central Committee (SCC) meeting this weekend at the Lovell Community Center. All meetings are open to the public.
The meeting begins Friday with a fundraising dinner and program by Andy Nelson of the Clear Out West Radio Show. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. Live and silent auctions are planned; proceeds remain in Big Horn County. Tickets are $60. Elected state officials often attend and give updates on Friday evenings and/or Saturdays during the SCC meetings. Curt Meier, the state treasurer, plans to attend.  So, too, does Reid Rasner, who is running for Sen. John Barrasso’s seat in the U.S. Senate.

Coming attraction: Allosaurus silhouette to welcome motorists

The marketing of the Greybull area as a place where dinosaurs once roamed freely continues.
The latest example is a 10-foot tall, 14-foot-long silhouette of an allosaurus that will soon be installed west of town along U.S. Highway 14-16-20 as part of a collaboration between Grow Greybull and the Greybull Museum.
Eddie Johnson, who heads the museum’s board of directors, said the silhouette is expected to arrive in Greybull on Friday, Feb. 16 and be installed that same day.  While Johnson is uncertain of precisely when this will happen, he’s is hopeful some residents turn out for the occasion.
So why a silhouette?
“I saw an ad showing the silhouette between Casper and Shoshoni and i guess you could say it piqued my interest,” he said. “I found out who did it, made a call ... and got a cost estimate.”

Dept. of Workforce Services launches online job board

CHEYENNE – The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) recently launched a new online job board, HireWYO.com. The upgraded site will improve user experience and site performance with exciting new features for job seekers and employers.
“HireWYO.com has a more straightforward and intuitive interface,” said Robin Sessions Cooley, Director of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services. “Our new site offers a better user experience, whether you’re an employer or a job seeker.”

Girl Scout cookie sales begin

Girl Scout Troop 1212 members began their annual cookie sales campaign on Friday, Feb. 2.
“We are in our seventh cookie season and we want to thank the community for supporting our troop,” said Chrystal Rhodes, the troop leader. “It’s been amazing what these girls have accomplished.”
Troop 1212 is five members strong.  Bonnie and Ruby, who are continuing, welcomed Bridgette, Jordyn and  Zoey, which allowed Troop 1212 to take it back to the beginning with Daisy and Brownie Scouts.
“We are halfway thru this term and they have had a lot of fun,” said Rhodes. “There are still open spots for those interested.”
Troop 1212 is urging customers to make sure it’s Troop 1212 placing their orders so there isn’t any confusion with deliveries. Each scout will identify herself by first name only and troop number.
