Museum lands grant to proceed with more caboose improvements

The Greybull Museum has received a grant from the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund, a program of the Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources, to complete renovations to the caboose located at the museum.
The Burlington Caboose located in front of the museum was initially used to house the Greybull Area Chamber of Commerce. It was moved by Burlington Northern to its present location at the museum.
The association recently assisted with the labor to work on the caboose, repainting the exterior in original colors, prepping and painting the undercarriage, replacing windows and the deck located at the entrance to the caboose.
With the assistance of the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund, the association will be able to complete the roof replacement, completely refurbish the interior, build an exit stairway for one way traversing of the interior and make the entrance as ADA compliant as possible.

MCT plans ‘Treasure Island’ auditions, performances

An audition will be held for the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) production of “Treasure Island” on Monday, Jan. 22, 2024, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm at the Greybull High School auditorium. Registration forms can be picked up at any Greybull School or the Greybull Rec Center. Forms need to be returned to Greybull Elementary School at 125 Sixth Ave. S. prior to the audition and spaces are limited for some age groups.
Those who have pre-registered to audition should arrive at 3:40 and plan to stay for the full two hours. Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition.

Indoor walk for seniors planned Feb. 1 in Cody

The University of Wyoming Extension has announced plans for the Wyoming Walks program for Big Horn County seniors, an initiative designed to promote active living and foster a sense of community and shared experiences.
The Wyoming Walks program for seniors is an indoor walk scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 1 at the Buffalo Bill Museum. The event kicks off at 10 a.m. and walks led by museum experts start promptly at 10:15 a.m.
Recognizing the importance of community engagement, especially during the winter months, Wyoming Walks allows residents to stay active with family, friends and neighbors.
Admission to the Wyoming Walks for Seniors at the Buffalo Bill Museum is free for seniors and their caregivers. Non-senior attendees are welcome, with a regular admission fee of $23. Slow walkers and those with assistance devices are welcome.

GHS Speech takes third at opener

The Greybull High School speech team kicked off its 2024 varsity season this past weekend with a third-place finish in 1A/2A at the season opener in Thermopolis.
Greybull’s numbers were hampered by post-holiday illnesses and conflicts, which made for tough competition against the 18 schools in attendance.
“The tournament brought together some very strong programs from across the state,” said coach Joel Kuper. “But I saw some real growth from our novices, and our varsity members kept us in the tournament.”
While no one made it to the finals this time around, Grainger Russell, Gabriel VanderPloeg and Samuel Campos impressed the judges and earned their way to the semifinal rounds in their respective events. Russell and  VanderPloeg competed in Humor, where Russell “just missed finals,” according to his coach.

Jan. 1 — 12:03 a.m.: Deputies investigated reports of possible fireworks on Big Horn Avenue in Basin.
Jan. 2 — 2:19 p.m.: A sheep was out on Antelope Street in Basin.
2:42 p.m.: Deputies on Highway 20 South in Basin took information about the Basin Gun Club gate being locked.
Jan. 3 — 7:49 a.m.: On Highway 14 in Shell, deputies responded to a vehicular accident with a deer.
9:07 a.m.: Cows were out on Road 34 in Shell.
9:34 a.m.: Deputies on Highway 14 in Shell assisted Wyoming Highway Patrol at a scene where a single person suffered an accidental gunshot wound. The individual was transported to the hospital.
2:45 p.m.: Jennifer L. Clouse was arrested on a warrant in Basin and charged with failure to pay.
3:23 p.m.: On Highway 14/16/20 in Emblem, deputies referred a call about a dog that had been hit to WHP.

12:46 p.m.: Officers initiated activity relating to a lost animal on Schutte Drive.

The Greybull Fire Department will give a ball at the Grand Dance Palace on Wednesday evening, January 10. The firemen always have a good time and their dances are always well patronized and enjoyed.

Greybull young folks recreation center will open this coming Saturday night for the first  time since it was  announced today by Kenneth Kaptie, general chairman  of the various committees. The plan to open a week ago was postponed when the committee failed to obtain a jukebox to provide music for the dancing.
Greybull’s Buffs defeated Burlington, 37-29. Buddy Kunkel led the team with 12 points. Glen Roehrkasse was only two points back with 10
