Emerald Jordan, Catcher Russell and Torrey Sanford will share valedictory honors for the Greybull High School Class of 2023, while Cale Wright holds salutatory honors. Each will address family and friends during commencement exercises May 21 at 1:30 p.m. in the GHS gymnasium.

With 14 axles on the road, Elvin Gilbert trucked through his native Greybull last Tuesday for the first time in a 30-year career enroute to deliver a convection heater from Tulsa, Okla. to the Laurel Refinery in Montana.

“It was just kind of special,” said Gilbert. “It’s the first time ever in 30 years. I came right through Greybull, right under the light.”

Working for Security Specialized Transportation (SST), located out Kiefer in the Tulsa area, Gilbert is one of a handful of individuals in the country who specializes in heavy hauling, a division of trucking that handles loads ranging from 150,000 to 300,000 pounds. 

Due to the weight and sometimes width of the equipment being transported, heavy hauling involves special permits, route surveys and front and rear pilot vehicles that may close sections of the route for safe passage.

2022 was another successful year for the Wyoming chapter of Combat Warriors, Inc.

A nonprofit organization that started in North Carolina, it organizes and promotes dozens of events annually that bring together groups of active duty and veteran soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen for hunting and fishing adventures around the country.

Travis Marshall is the point man for operations in Wyoming.  A 2001 graduate of Greybull High School, he went on to become a Green Beret and get deployed three times to Afghanistan, twice to Iraq and once to Ukraine, before retiring.  

He now lives in the Shell, where he and his wife are raising a family.

Combat Warriors, Inc., is a cause to which he's deeply committed. It's growing. In year one, two veterans came out for an elk hunt.  In 2021, there were two elk hunters and two antelope hunters, and in 2022, there were three elk hunters and four antelope hunters.

A seventh grader at Greybull Middle School received a pleasant surprise on the eight-month anniversary of his father’s death.

Students in Mrs. Kate Decker’s class were recently assigned to write “swag letters” to their favorite companies. Xsavier Garay chose the Brooklyn Cloth Company for a very personal reason.  His father, Yuyo, loved its clothing, and when he died unexpectedly on April 9, 2022, a lot of it got passed down to Xsavier.

One of Xsavier personal favorites is a black bandana hoodie which he wears to school nearly every day.  He told the company in his letter, “The hoodie makes me happy wearing it and it and it reminds me of my dad.”

Xsavier was wearing it on Friday, Dec. 9 when he was summoned to the office.  Four large boxes from the Brooklyn Cloth Company had arrived at the school.  Three were addressed to Xsavier, the fourth to his classmates.  Each was filled with T-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, hats and bandanas.
