Exhibits created by Stella Wade, Shayla Cheatham and Cannon Cook took Best of Show honors in the annual Art in the Dark show held Thursday evening in Greybull High School’s Buff Gym.

Approximately 250 people attended the socially-distanced show, which used the cafeteria as a starting point and proceeded along the north, east and south walls of the gym.  

“Fantasy and Folktales” was this year’s theme.

It didn’t come in a McDonald’s bag – and it didn’t come with a special toy, but the Happy Meal served to the residents at Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home Friday offered the residents something a little different, broke the routine, and brightened their lives. 

Vicki Wright explained that every year Cloud Peak Drags gives a donation to the “Bonnie Blues” to be used where needed, to brighten their lives.

Mike and Cheryle Howe, driving forces behind Cloud Peak Drags, are usually present for the annual “hamburger fry.” In fact, Wright said, “Mike orders everything, mans the barbecue and ‘flips the burgers’ himself.”

With COVID-19 restrictions, that was not an option this year. Wright said they called the A&W and ordered every resident’s special “Happy Meal” choice. And the A&W delivered them on right on time.

What did each order? Hamburgers, onion rings, cole slaw –and root beer. Did the residents enjoy the break in lunch routine?

The Greybull Public Library has a new manager, and in Cynthia Garay, the Big Horn County Library Board believes it’s found a leader who will bring “a great personality and strong people skills” to the position.

“She is well known in the community and is eager to learn her new responsibilities as the library manager,” said Lisa Chestnut, director of the Big Horn County Library System.

Garay, who took over in middle of November, replaces Tina Ely, who resigned in September after six years on the job.

Garay grew up in the Burlington/Otto area, where her parents were agricultural workers. She has no previous library experience, but is a cook by trade and has spent most of her working life doing that or waitressing. She’s worked at The Hideout, the Wheels Inn and most recently at the Overland Express in Basin. It’s been a good fit for her. “I really love talking to people,” she said. 

Clayton Draggoo, owner of Atwood Family Funeral Directors in Greybull and Basin, served in the United States Army from 1998-2002.

Clayton was the fourth generation in his family to serve in the military. Knowing from a young age that he wanted to be a mortician and finding out he would have to wait a year to attend the mortuary school he chose, he decided to enlist. Researching all the branches of the military he decided on the Army. He said, “It had to be in line with what I wanted to do. The Army was the only branch that would guarantee I could go into mortuary affairs.” 

Clayton’s home base was Fort Lee, Virginia where he served as a mortuary affairs specialist in the 54th Quartermaster Company. From there he was deployed frequently around the world to lead or assist in mortuary operations.
